Eric and the team have quickly become irreplaceable for our company. When we first sat down they said they truly wanted to become partners and not another vendor. They proved this within the first month of working with them. I can't recommend them enough. They are incredibly responsive, kind, and knowledgeable and have tackled our complex accounting challenges in record time. They provide valuable insights into both our financial history and future planning. They've taken the time to clarify fundamental accounting best practices in a way that’s easy to understand and immediately useful. We especially appreciate their support for local and women-owned businesses. Sentinel Finance Group is a rare find and the kind of long-term partner every small business hopes for.

I'm very glad we invited Eric onto our team. Mascot Junction is a fairly small, but growing, company and we were looking to bring someone on that could help us see over the horizon and develop a set of metrics and systems to monitor our financial health and help ensure greater success of reaching our goals. Eric was definitely the right person for the job. He rolled up his sleeves, learned our business quickly, and was pointing out areas of opportunity (and concerns) at our first meeting. While we were not big enough to justify the cost of a full-time CFO, we were growing fast enough that we needed more sophisticated financial management skills, so the Fractional CFO services offered through Sentinel Finance were a good solution for us.

I've had an excellent experience working with Eric. I've engaged Eric as my fractional controller to bring systems, organization and leadership to my bookkeeping team and he has done just that. He is direct, to the point and gets things done in a timely fashion. He leads our monthly financial meetings and presents all the information in an easy to understand fashion. I would highly recommend.

Eric was our CFO for 10 years. He provided monthly financial reporting to our board and helped our staff accountant with monthly closes. I was very happy with his expertise and leadership and I knew I could always count on him to answer my questions. It was really great to work with him and I highly recommend his company Sentinel Finance Group.

About Sentinel Finance Group

Kansas City Roots. Nationwide Reach.

The combination of fractional CFO, controller, and accounting services under one roof means you get both strategic financial leadership and the day-to-day infrastructure to support it.

The best CFO for your business is the one who works like part of your team, not a vendor you have to manage. We’re based in Kansas City and serve clients from coast to coast, fully remote. You’ll work directly with a senior CFO partner who is embedded in your business, available when you need them, and accountable to your results.

When we first sat down they said they truly wanted to become partners and not another vendor. They proved this within the first month. They provide valuable insights into both our financial history and future planning. Sentinel Finance Group is a rare find and the kind of long-term partner every business hopes for."

A note from our founder

“Most fractional CFO services stop at the report. I started Sentinel Finance Group to go past it."

I started Sentinel Finance Group because the fractional CFO space is getting crowded with people who are really just selling you better data. AI made financial analysis accessible. Anyone can connect your books to a dashboard and hand you a report with insights. It looks like CFO work, but it isn’t.

A CFO’s job isn’t just to interpret your financials. It’s to get inside your business, figure out what’s actually broken, make a decision, tell the right people, and own the outcome. It’s a leadership job. A people job. An execution job.

No dashboard does that. No report does that. No AI tool does that. A human does that, one willing to take responsibility for the result. That’s the standard I hold every hire in this firm to, because it’s the same standard I’d use if I were the one doing the hiring.

I wouldn’t hire a vendor I had to manage. I’d want a partner in the room with me, not a dashboard I get sent once a month. I wouldn’t accept getting shuffled between people who don’t know my business. I’d want one core team that stays with me and learns it deeply. I wouldn’t pay CFO rates for bookkeeper work, or hire three different firms to cover bookkeeping, controller work, and CFO strategy. I’d want one team, scaled to fit whatever revenue range I was in, that grows with me instead of forcing me to switch firms later. And I wouldn’t outsource my financials to an offshore team I couldn’t meet.

I didn’t see a firm doing all of this, so I built one.

Try us for a month, free. If you don’t see more value than our fee in that first 30 days, don’t hire us. Don’t trust my sales page. Watch us work, then decide for yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers before you talk to anyone

Yes. Profit and cash are two different problems. We forecast your cash, fix the timing between what you’re owed and what you owe, and build a reserve.

Yes. We work with businesses across every industry, from $1M to $50M in revenue. The tools and metrics shift by industry. The core problems don’t. We bring deep financial leadership — you won’t pay for a learning curve.

No. AI can read your numbers and write a report. It can’t sit in the room, make the call, tell your team, and own the result. That’s the actual job, and it’s a human one. We use good tools, but we don’t hand you the tool and call it financial leadership.

Our clients say they see immediate improvements in visibility, decision-making, and accountability. During your free month, we identify financial blind spots, strengthen reporting, and uncover opportunities. Stronger margins, healthier cash flow, and better forecasting typically build over the first few months.

We use shared financial dashboards, cloud-based accounting tools, and regular video calls to stay embedded in your business from anywhere. We work in the platforms your team already uses: QuickBooks, Xero, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, AppFolio, Yardi, Buildium, and others. We’re proactive. You’ll hear from us regularly, not just at month-end.

We also provide in-person support in the Kansas City area.

A fractional CFO is an experienced chief financial officer who works with a business on a part-time or ongoing basis, providing strategic financial leadership without the cost of a full-time executive hire. Companies often bring in a fractional CFO when the business is growing, financial complexity is outpacing internal capacity, capital decisions are becoming more consequential, or investor and lender reporting needs have increased.

Most fractional CFO engagements run $3,000–$12,000 a month depending on scope. Our engagements are customized based on scope and complexity. Fractional CFO services cost significantly less than hiring a full-time CFO while still providing executive-level financial leadership. Your first month is free, so you see the value before you pay anything.

Bookkeepers record transactions. A CPA typically focuses on tax compliance, accounting, and historical reporting. A controller makes sure the books are right and closes the month. A CFO decides what to do about it — strategy, forecasting, cash, growth, and execution. We give you all three levels under one team, so nothing falls through the gaps.

We typically work with businesses generating between $1M and $50M in annual revenue, though the decision to hire a fractional CFO depends more on complexity than revenue alone. If you’re doing $1M or more in revenue and can’t get clear answers from your numbers, you’re not too small — you’re exactly who this is for. We start where a lot of firms won’t.

No. Your first month is free, there’s no long-term contract, and you can cancel anytime. If we don’t show you more value than our fee, you shouldn’t keep paying us.
